Our NQT package provides an enhanced induction programme for all of Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs). This programme commences at the beginning of July with our 3-week summer induction programme. The induction programme is delivered at home schools as well as jointly, enabling all NQTs to meet their peers within the Trust. Individual support is provided by subject and senior leader mentors and we offer subject specific as well as general training through the Alban Teaching School Hub (ATSH) and Herts for Learning (HfL) events.

Teaching / Learning Assistant

We are expanding our Teaching / Learning Assistant teams and looking for great people to support teachers within the classroom in our schools. We have opportunities within each of our secondary schools in St Albans and Welwyn Garden City:
- Verulam School, St. Albans AL1 4PR
- Sandringham School, St Albans AL4 9NX
- Ridgeway School, Welwyn Garden City AL7 2AF
Working with students aged 11-18 on a 1-2-1 basis, you will support them by: clarifying and explaining instructions, motivating and encouraging them to complete work, and promoting and reinforcing self-esteem.
You don’t need to have previous experience, but you should be passionate and committed to the role you will undertake and be able to work effectively with young people who may be challenging and vulnerable.
We will provide you with a supportive induction and work environment and will offer a range of training to equip you in your role, such as subject specific, behavioural, or numeracy and literacy training.
Our teaching assistant roles work school term time only, presenting an attractive option for work – life balance. We can be flexible and offer a range of working hours within our school days from 6 hours up to a total of 37 hours per week, depending upon the school.

The role of a Teaching Assistant
In undertaking the role of a Teaching Assistant, your main areas of responsibility in supporting students will involve:
- Clarifying and explaining instructions
- Ensuring the student is able to use equipment and materials provided
- Motivating and encouraging the student as required
- Assisting in areas of focus, e.g. behaviour, literacy, numeracy and communication skills
- Helping students to concentrate on and finish work set
- Meeting physical needs as required whilst encouraging independence
- Supporting specific aims in lessons as planned and directed by the teacher
- Listen and offer emotional support when and as appropriate
- Empathise and communicate sensitively with all students
- Establish a supportive relationship with the students concerned
- Encourage acceptance and inclusion of the student with special needs
- Develop methods of promoting/reinforcing the student’s self-esteem
You will also work with our teachers to help facilitate student progress, maintaining confidentiality in relation to any issues linked with the students you are supporting.
We will support you in developing awareness and knowledge of
- Guidance on the special educational needs and disability (SEND) system for children and young people
- the requirements of the National Curriculum and of the literacy and numeracy strategies relevant to classes.
- the range of learning support needs and the specific needs of the students to be supported.
Benefits
- Actual salary between £16,319 and £17,175 for term time only (Full time equivalent salary £19,650 and £20,680 for 52 weeks worked)

AAT Network Technician
37 hours per week.
Start date: April 2022
The Alban Academies Trust, which incorporates Sandringham School, Verulam School and Ridgeway Academy at secondary level and Garden Fields School, Skyswood School, Wheatfields Junior School and Wheatfields Infants’ and Nursery School at primary level, is looking to appoint a Trust Network Technician. This post is based at Sandringham School and Ridgeway Academy with occasional travel to other Trust schools. This position is full time.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, suitably experienced and qualified person to work across the Trust to support the development and implementation of the IT strategy and assist with IT projects at other academy sites should the need arise. The provision of first line IT support services to students and staff on school related IT as well as maintaining IT hardware to help to ensure the efficient running of all computers and systems throughout the school on a day-to-day basis will be a key focus.
Candidates need to be well organised, have good communication skills and the ability to work on their own initiative and prioritise tasks. Experience with the latest Windows versions, servers, SCCM, Google Apps and administration, along with the ability to install and configure network switches, print servers and wireless networking are essential for this position. We are looking for a candidate that can be flexible and sensitive to the differing needs and levels of knowledge of a wide range of school users.
